	Welcome to the ESSTI website – for surveillance of sexually transmitted infections in Europe. The official website of the European Surveillance of Sexually Transmitted Infections (ESSTI) network provides country- and topic-specific information for clinicians and other health professionals interested in the surveillance of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Europe. ESSTI ALERT, the EU STI outbreak early warning system, is currently underway.
A comprehensive review of EU STI surveillance systems has been completed. Initially completed in 2003, the review has recently been updated and now includes information from new ESSTI member states.
A retrospective analysis of EU STI surveillance trends between 1990 and 2005 has been completed. See ESSTI Surveillance Annual Report No.1.pdf ()
An EU-wide evaluation of laboratory methods for diagnosis of gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis infections has been completed. This evaluation has recently been extended to new ESSTI member states.
A panel exchange of N. gonorrhoeae isolates among 19 laboratories across Europe was undertaken in February 2007 to test quality assurance and antimicrobial susceptibility.
